Olaplex: what is it and do I need it?

Olaplex, do you need it?

In a word: yes!

Here are more words from Andrea Claire (points to self) as to why:

Olaplex is being praised as the 'holy grail' of hair.

It is a hair game changer.

I've been a hairstylist since 1991 and nothing compares to this on the market. Simply, it is an additive/treatment that you can mix into your chemical services to stop damage done to the hair shaft. It's a bond multiplier reconnecting broken disulfide bonds found in hair.

Some stylists like to push the envelope when it comes to colour/bleach/ what have you, compromising hair stability well - this alleviates that compromising position allowing you to maintain hair's integrity without pushing any boundaries. I'm not a boundary pusher; it's just not how I do hair, but I did buy some Olaplex on my last visit to Canada and have been testing it out on myself and my clients since I got back in Singapore.

I don't colour my hair but I live in the tropics where sun and heat tools affect the hair shaft - my hair truly feels amazing from one treatment - thicker, softer, shinier. I applied it on my daughter's hair too, who had some dehydrated curls, but it also felt brittle from swimming and sunshine. World's different! She has lustrous, spun-golden blonde vs the fragile broken blonde. (I mixed 1/2 the amount of the #1 and avoided her scalp. I didn't see any warnings about Olaplex on children nor did anyone respond to my email inquiry but considering there's no harsh chemicals...)

I decided not to charge my clients on this first run with Olaplex just so I could see the results. I have asked my clients to give me feedback and so far I have received one text:

"Hair Update: I am loving my hair after treatment! It is very soft and seems to have more volume, less frizz. It looks nice even if I haven't washed it for several days... I don't ever have time to blow dry it... so I just leave it, and it still looks nice. When I curled it with curling iron Sat nite, curls held well, no product. There is still some frizz, but it's better than it was before treatment... maybe I can come repeat it in a while... and pay of course! smile emoticon"  F.W client that I added Olaplex into her colour and then a separate treatment immediately post-colour.

The system consists of steps 1, 2 and 3. 1 is added to your colour, 2 is post colour for a minimum of 10 minutes. You can leave it in for the duration of the haircut. Step 3 is a client's upkeep at home.

Have you Olaplex'ed? A stylist or client? Share you love in the comments below!

Here are a few others whom I've treated to an Olaplex:

I literally have one Olaplex application left. I'll be grabbing more when I'm back in Canada mid-September. All clients...
